Russian Security Foils Bomb Plot Targeting Top Defense Official, Four Arrested

Russian security agencies have arrested four individuals accused of planning to detonate a powerful improvised explosive device targeting a high-ranking officer of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that the sabotage-terrorist plot was orchestrated by Ukrainian special services in collaboration with leaders of the international terrorist organization Islamic State. The planned attack was successfully prevented by Russian authorities, The Caspian Post informs via Russian media.

Among those detained in Moscow are three Russian nationals suspected of concealing evidence linked to the plot, along with one suspect from Central Asia who is alleged to be the direct perpetrator of the planned terrorist act.

“The attack was intended to take place in a densely populated area of the capital. Experts estimate that the explosive device had the potential to cause continuous casualties within a 70-meter radius,” the FSB statement said.

The explosives were reportedly smuggled into Russian territory by Ukrainian intelligence agencies using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue assessing the full scope of the plot and its connections.
