Russia Proposes to Hold Caspian Naval Drills with Iran, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan in 2026

Russia has officially proposed to hold joint naval exercises in the Caspian Sea with Iran, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan in 2026.

The proposed drills aim to enhance coordination on maritime security, including the protection of shipping routes and critical marine infrastructure, as well as strengthening joint efforts in search-and-rescue operations within the Caspian region, The Caspian Post informs via Russian media.

The initiative was put forward during a recent meeting of the naval commanders from the four Caspian littoral states. The ministry emphasized the importance of fostering regional maritime cooperation in light of growing economic activity in the area.

This proposal comes as Russia continues to expand its naval capabilities. Recently, the country’s Baltic Fleet conducted a tactical exercise involving a group of warships focused on countering naval mine threats.
