Uzbek, Turkmen Presidents Meet in Ashgabat

Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with his Turkmen counterpart Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat.

Mirziyoyev sincerely congratulated the president and the brotherly people of Turkmenistan on the 30th anniversary of the country’s declaration of neutrality, on the high-level organization of the International Forum dedicated to this significant date, and on the designation of 2025 as the International Year of Peace and Trust, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

Particular attention was given to strengthening the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan in implementing the agreements reached during the recent state visit of the president of Turkmenistan to Uzbekistan.

Since the beginning of the year, trade turnover has reached approximately $1 billion. The Shavat - Dashoguz border trade zone is operating successfully. Freight volumes have increased by 30 percent, including through the port of Turkmenbashi. Active humanitarian and interregional exchanges continue.

The importance of adopting effective measures at the upcoming meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council, and the Regions Forum was emphasized to increase trade volumes and promote cooperation projects across economic sectors, including energy, agriculture, transport, and others.
