Kyrgyzstan to Reveal Kyrgyz-Tajik Border Treaty Details on March 19

The border issue between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, which had remained unresolved for 101 years until 2024, has finally been resolved, President Sadyr Japarov stated after the signing of the treaty on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border.

"This is a breakthrough not only for two countries, but for entire Central Asian region. All countries of the region have regulated their border issues. From this moment, eternal peace has been established in Central Asia," the President said, The Caspian Post reports citing Akipress.

"Now the countries of Central Asia should start the process of introducing a visa-free regime among themselves, and for guests from other countries - a single visa that allows free movement in all countries of the region, similar to the Schengen visa," President Japarov suggested.

"We have not disclosed many details of the document before ratification, since we did not want disruption of the process before signing. On March 19, National Security Committee Chairman Kamchybek Tashiev will disclose every detail of the agreement in parliament on March 19," the President said.

"It is difficult for our citizens to leave the territories given to Tajikistan, because this is their native land, the place where their ancestors rest. Residents of the Tajik villages, which were transferred to Kyrgyzstan, feel the same. This is difficult for both parties. But when the issue of the state border is resolved, the interests of individual villages cannot prevail. The interests of the entire state are in the first place. Our ancestors rest in many places, starting from Altai, Yenisei, Krasnoyarsk and ending in Kulja, Urumqi and Beijing," the President stated.

"In addition to the village of Dostuk, several houses were also relocated, arranged in a checkerboard pattern on land along the border. This was necessary, because the border fence must run along a straight line. Otherwise, border control will be difficult in the future for border guards of both countries. Over 30 years, as a result of border conflicts, thousands of citizens have died on both sides. The government will not ignore our citizens who were forced to leave their homes. We will provide them with new, modern houses with much better conditions," the President promised.
