The pro-Kremlin tabloid Moskovsky Komsomolets reported on Tuesday that a group of masked men had stormed the office building in central Moscow where its newsroom is located.

Surveillance footage published by the outlet showed at least four masked individuals forcing their way into the building’s lobby, followed shortly after by five additional men, The Caspian Post reports, citing The Moscow Times.

“Several members of the group acted aggressively, refused to produce any identification and threatened to smash the doors and turnstiles at the building’s entrance,” MK wrote.

According to the report, the men then took control of the third-floor elevator lobby, locked the doors from the inside, and subsequently refused to open them when police officers arrived at the scene.

MK Editor-in-Chief Pavel Gusev told the Vedomosti business newspaper that a different company rents office space on the building’s third floor.

The pro-Kremlin broadcaster Ren TV, citing an unnamed source, reported that the raid was directed at one of the commercial tenants in the office building. Gusev also confirmed to Ren TV that MK itself was not the intended target of the incident.

Gusev added that the masked men refused to speak with him or respond to any questions.

“It’s a strange situation, completely incomprehensible at this point,” he told Vedomosti.
