Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) said Wednesday that no epidemic risks had been identified in Irkutsk following a reported case of pneumonia.
The agency said the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the eastern Siberian city and nearby Shelekhov remains stable, noting that comprehensive preventive and anti-epidemic measures had been implemented, The Caspian Post reports, citing Xinhua.
As of Wednesday, medical monitoring had been completed for more than 90% of people who had been in contact with the patient. No infectious disease-related health abnormalities were identified, while almost 5,000 laboratory tests detected no dangerous pathogenic microorganisms, according to Rospotrebnadzor.
The agency said the necessary measures were promptly carried out in full accordance with sanitary legislation after authorities received information about the case.
Two commissions responsible for monitoring compliance with biological safety requirements inspected the institute where the patient worked. They found no incidents involving pathogenic microorganisms and confirmed that appropriate controls were in place.
