Putin May Demand Remaining 11% of Donbas to Resume Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly prepared to return to peace negotiations only if Ukraine transfers the remaining 11% of Donbas territory still outside Russian control.

Putin could present such a territorial gain to the Russian public as a victory, according to UNIAN.

Meanwhile, the US is seeking to use a controversial diesel deal to soften the Kremlin’s position and bring Russia back to the negotiating table.

The issue was raised during talks in Miami, where US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, reportedly discussed the approach with the Ukrainian delegation.

“The idea was that the US could go to Russia and say: ‘Look, the Ukrainians have stopped the strikes, and we’ve given you this deal. Now it’s your turn to do something,’” one source familiar with the discussions said.

However, officials who took part in the meeting reportedly expressed skepticism about the US approach.
