Operations at Russia's Sochi International Airport have been severely disrupted, with dozens of flights delayed and several cancelled amid recent aviation restrictions and a drone attack on the city.

Some 15 departing flights and 13 arriving flights are delayed by more than 10 hours, according to TASS.

The delays affect flights to and from destinations including Moscow, Samara, Novokuznetsk, Chelyabinsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Stavropol, Saratov, Grozny, Krasnoyarsk, Ufa, Perm, Tyumen and Omsk.

Overall, 61 flights are currently delayed at Sochi Airport - 30 departures and 31 arrivals.

Some 10 flights have been cancelled, including services involving Mineralnye Vody, Nizhnekamsk, Nizhnevartovsk, Kazan, Saratov, Makhachkala, Barnaul, Yekaterinburg and two flights from Moscow.

Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency, Rosaviation, has repeatedly introduced temporary restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures at Sochi and other Russian airports.

The latest restrictions at Sochi were imposed at 1:40 a.m. (GMT+3) and lifted at 2:44 a.m. Similar measures were also introduced at nearby Gelendzhik Airport as a precaution for flight safety.

The disruptions follow a drone attack on Sochi on September 4. Following the attack, restrictions were also temporarily imposed on aircraft refuelling operations at Sochi Airport.

Passengers have been advised to check the latest status of their flights directly with their airlines and the airport before travelling.
