Elena Polonskaya, an official responsible for relations with compatriots and migration issues under the governor of Russia’s Pskov Region, has accused Baltic authorities of deporting Russian-speaking residents at night and leaving them without financial means to continue their journey.
Polonskaya frequently encounters Russian compatriots at the border with the Baltic states late in the evening. She claimed that most of them have little or no money to travel onward, according to rosbalt.
Polonskaya said that without coordination between relevant government agencies, people arriving at the border at night with limited financial resources might not even be able to afford accommodation in a hotel.
She also alleged that Baltic authorities fail to take into account whether deported families have young children.
Polonskaya described such treatment as degrading to human dignity.
