Deputy Chairman of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the party’s lead official on Turkic state relations Kürşad Zorlu has underscored the strategic importance of the proposed Zangezur Corridor, calling it a historic opportunity for greater integration and cooperation among Turkic nations.
Zorlu made the remarks following Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s participation in the 17th Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) Summit, held in Azerbaijan’s Khankendi, The Caspian Post reports via local media.
In his statement, Zorlu highlighted the close diplomatic and cultural ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, calling the cooperation between their leaders a testament to an “unshakable brotherhood.”
“As President Erdoğan emphasized, the relationship between Türkiye and Azerbaijan is not just one of friendship, but one of brotherhood,” Zorlu wrote. “The phrase ‘One nation, two states’ carries a profound message. Our two nations have repeatedly stood together during the most critical moments in our history.”
Zorlu emphasized that the Zangezur Corridor, which would provide a land link between Azerbaijan and Türkiye through Armenia, holds both geopolitical and geoeconomic significance.
“This route will create new opportunities not only for Azerbaijan but for the entire region,” he said. “It will bring Turkic nations closer together and serve as a strategic boost to the development of the Middle Corridor, a vital trade route connecting East and West.”
The project is viewed by Ankara and Baku as a critical part of broader efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and reduce reliance on existing transit corridors through rival territories.
Zorlu affirmed that Türkiye, under President Erdoğan’s leadership, remains committed to advancing the project through coordinated efforts with regional partners.
“The steps we are taking toward realizing the Zangezur Corridor represent a historic process for Türkiye and the entire Turkic world,” he added.
