Georgia May Join Ambitious China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan Railway Plan

Uzbekistan has formally invited Georgia to consider participating in the ambitious China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which is poised to become a key component of the trans-Eurasian transport network.

The proposal was made during a meeting between Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport Ilkhom Makhkamov and Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kyrgyz media.

The talks focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in road and rail transport, as well as advancing international multimodal logistics through Georgia’s strategic Black Sea ports.

Highlighting the significance of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, Makhkamov emphasized its potential integration into major international transport corridors, particularly the Middle Corridor-which links China to Europe via Central Asia and the South Caucasus.

Given Georgia’s pivotal geographic position and its growing role in regional connectivity, the Uzbek minister proposed that Tbilisi explore options for joining the project. The integration of Georgia would enhance both the capacity and efficiency of the corridor, contributing to a more diversified and resilient global logistics chain.

The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is expected to boost regional trade, shorten delivery times, and create new economic opportunities for participating countries across Eurasia.
