Turkish authorities have denied reports of a mass Coxsackie virus outbreak among Russian tourists in Antalya, saying the health situation at hotels across the popular resort destination remains stable.

Antalya municipal authorities said that reports of widespread infections among Russian holidaymakers were not accurate and said no hotels had reported health-related complaints involving tourists, The Caspian Post reports via Kommersant.

The issue came under scrutiny after Russia's Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor), contacted Türkiye’s Ministry of Health on July 21 to request information about the epidemiological situation.

The request followed reports that several Russian tourists had contracted the Coxsackie virus at IC Santai Family Resort in Belek, a resort area in Antalya province.

While individual cases were reported, claims of mass infections were rejected.

Coxsackie viruses are commonly transmitted through close contact, as well as contaminated food and water.

Symptoms can include fever, skin rashes and lesions affecting the mucous membranes. The virus can spread more easily in settings where people are in close contact, including resorts and other holiday facilities.
