Turkish police have detained a Russian national wanted by Russian authorities in connection with the murder of a model and participant in the “Mrs. Russia - Universe” beauty pageant, Russia’s Interior Ministry said.

The arrest followed a request from Russian law enforcement and was made possible through cooperation between Russia’s National Central Bureau of Interpol and the Moscow Region branch of the Interior Ministry with their Turkish counterparts, according to TASS.

Russian Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk announced the detention, saying the suspect was apprehended in a foreign country as a result of coordinated efforts between the two sides.

Russian police have tracked down and detained a man accused of killing a woman in the Moscow Region after he fled the country and traveled through Türkiye, Volk said.

According to preliminary information, the incident occurred in July 2026 in a settlement in the Odintsovo urban district of the Moscow Region. The suspect reportedly got into a conflict with a female acquaintance over personal disagreements.

During the argument, the man struck the woman, causing her death, and then attempted to conceal evidence of the crime. A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 105 of Russia’s Criminal Code, which covers murder.

Police later established that the suspect had left Russia shortly after the incident. He reportedly flew from Vnukovo International Airport in Moscow to Türkiye before continuing on to another country.

The Moscow Region branch of Russia’s Interior Ministry sent an urgent request to Turkish authorities through Interpol channels. Information provided by Turkish counterparts helped investigators establish the suspect’s subsequent route.

At the request of Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, an international search for the suspect was organized in August 2026, based on materials collected by the Moscow Region criminal investigation department.

Authorities subsequently established his whereabouts and detained him. The suspect is currently in custody, Volk said.
