Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that the construction of the Kars-Igdir-Aralik-Dilucu railway line will become a key component of the Zangezur corridor.
In his statement, Erdogan stressed that this project is of strategic importance for the South Caucasus and will become a “peace project” for the region, The Caspian Post reports citing News.am.
The Turkish president noted that the launch of this €2.4 billion railway will increase the efficiency of the international trade route from China to the UK. According to him, this project will connect the Caspian and Mediterranean sea basins, and this will considerably strengthen the production and export opportunities of Türkiye’s eastern and southeastern regions, as well as improve transport infrastructure.
“With the implementation of all elements of the project, economic cooperation between Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Armenia will gain a new dimension,” Erdogan said, adding that the completion of this project would be a powerful impetus for regional development.
Also, he expressed hope that this 224-kilometer-long railway will be an important step in the strengthening of ties and prosperity in the region.
