Ukrainian Authorities Catch Russian Militant Trying to Enter EU Disguised as Refugee

Ukraine’s Security Service, together with Lithuanian law enforcement, has detained a 33-year-old Russian militant at the Lithuanian border who attempted to flee to the EU member states under the guise of a refugee.

The suspect, a native of Ukraine’s Sumy region, reportedly fought with Russian forces in Kherson as a drone operator after obtaining a Russian passport and joining the United Russia party following Crimea’s annexation, The Caspian Post informs via Ukrainian media.

Fearing the consequences of his actions, he tried to escape the front line by entering the EU member states.

Authorities charged him with high treason under martial law, which carries a potential life sentence.

Ukraine’s Security Service also revealed arrests in Zaporizhzhia and Odesa, where Russian operatives allegedly planned airstrikes and prepared explosives targeting Ukraine’s energy and port infrastructure.
