Unknown Projectile Hits Bulk Carrier Near Dubai

A bulk carrier has reported being struck by an “unknown projectile” about 50 nautical miles northwest of Dubai, marking the third vessel hit near the Strait of Hormuz on March 11 morning.

The vessel alerted the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which said the crew remained safe and that no environmental damage had been reported following the incident, The Caspian Post reports via foreign media.

Earlier, another cargo ship caught fire and had to be evacuated roughly 11 nautical miles north of the Musandam Peninsula in Oman after it was struck.

A separate commercial vessel that was hit off the coast of the United Arab Emirates also reported damage earlier the same day, raising concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
