ADB to Offer Low-Interest Loans to Tajikistan from 2027

Tajikistan is set to receive access to concessional financing from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) beginning in 2027, marking a significant shift in the country’s development funding opportunities.

The announcement was made by Director General of ADB's Central and West Asia Department Leah Gutierrez during a press conference held on the sidelines of the bank’s 59th Annual Meeting in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, The Caspian Post reports via Report.

Gutierrez said that the change will follow Tajikistan’s transition into the category of countries eligible for support from the International Development Association.

Currently, Tajikistan benefits from grant resources through the Asian Development Fund. However, from 2027, the new classification will allow the country to access low-interest loans, significantly expanding its financing options.

ADB officials also noted plans to increase support through additional funding “windows” within the bank, including programs focused on climate change mitigation and regional cooperation. These mechanisms are expected to help boost Tajikistan’s overall funding capacity and support long-term development goals.
