CIS Observer Mission Declares Tajikistan's Parliamentary Elections Free from Violations

The observer mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) did not detect any violations during the elections to the lower house of Tajikistan's parliament, which took place on March 2, CIS First Deputy Secretary General Leonid Anfimov, the mission's head, stated at a press conference.

"No violations that could influence the election results have been observed by the mission," he said, The Caspian Post reports, citing TASS.

Anfimov emphasized that voting in the parliamentary elections was conducted at a high organizational standard, it was held in a calm and peaceful manner. "On March 2, the CIS observer mission visited 887 polling stations across all regions of the country," he specified.

Since early February, ten representatives of the mission had been monitoring the preparation and progress of the elections and held meetings with officials from the republic's state bodies responsible for organizing and conducting elections, Anfimov pointed out.

On March 2, Tajikistan held elections to the Majlisi Namayandagon Majlisi Oli (lower house of the Tajik parliament), as well as to legislative bodies in the country's regions, cities, districts, and villages. According to the country’s Central Commission for Elections and Referendums, voter turnout reached 85.3%, with over 4.7 million voters out of more than 5.5 million eligible Tajik citizens casting their ballots.
