Economic Cooperation and Digitalization To Top Agenda at CIS Council Meeting in Tajikistan

The 107th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is scheduled for September 5 in Dushanbe, with a focus on economic cooperation, digitalization, and innovative regional development.

The discussions will cover key issues, including overcoming trade barriers, the CIS unified budget for 2026, and a broad range of topics spanning economic collaboration, digitalization, innovation, social policy, and regional security, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.

Specific agenda items include:

Exchange of views on current economic interactions

Strategies to remove obstacles in mutual trade

Recommendations for improving trade facilitation

Discussion of the CIS unified budget for 2026

Digitalization strategies for multimodal transport corridors

Action plan for developing the information society and digital economy through 2035

The Council will also examine intellectual property protection (2021-2024), implementation of the second phase of the CIS Economic Development Strategy (2026-2030), scientific and technological development projects, public health programs, and issues related to veterans of wars and local conflicts, including the identification of remains of soldiers from the 1979-1989 Afghan war.

Special focus will be placed on creating a unified air defense system for CIS states, the work of the Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Foundation, innovation and competency centers, as well as support for small businesses and improving the welfare of veterans.

High-level participation is expected from deputy prime ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, alongside representatives from the CIS Executive Committee.

Tajikistan assumed the chairmanship of the CIS Economic Council for 2025 from Russia on November 29, 2024, establishing Dushanbe as a central hub for regional economic coordination and initiative planning.

The Tajik Foreign Ministry has opened media accreditation for the event. Applications will be accepted until 12:00 (GMT+5) on September 1, 2025.
