On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to discuss strengthening trade and economic cooperation.
The meeting took place in Tianjin, China, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
President Rahmon expressed satisfaction with the growing frequency of high-level contacts and meetings between Tajikistan and Iran. The two leaders also focused on collaboration in energy, international transport, science and innovation, agriculture, healthcare, and other areas of mutual interest.
Both presidents welcomed the lifting of the visa regime between Tajikistan and Iran, noting its significant role in boosting tourism, trade, transport, cultural exchange, and medical cooperation between the two nations.
The discussions also touched on the current complex and unstable situation in the Middle East. President Rahmon thanked Iran’s leadership for supporting Tajikistan’s initiative to establish an SCO Anti-Drug Center in Dushanbe.
That same day, President Rahmon also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The two leaders discussed pressing issues of bilateral relations, exchanged views on the outcomes of the SCO summit, and addressed select topics on the international and regional agenda. They also reviewed plans for upcoming high-level contacts.
