Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has announced a series of social and economic measures aimed at improving living standards, including a rise in the minimum wage, pension indexation, and salary increases across key sectors.
Speaking to parliament, Rahmon said the minimum monthly wage will be raised to 1,300 somoni ($141.42) starting September 1, 2026, up from the current 1,000 somoni ($108.78), The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
He also confirmed plans to index pensions under social and state insurance schemes, as well as old-age pensions.
Significant pay rises are planned in the public sector. From September 2026, salaries in the education sector, including preschools, will increase by 25 per cent, while scholarships will rise by 20 per cent. Salaries for law enforcement officers will be raised by 20 per cent from September next year. Employees in other social sectors and scholarship recipients will also see increases of up to 20 per cent, while some payments will grow by 15 per cent to strengthen citizens’ financial security.
The president noted that these measures are designed to enhance social protection, raise living standards, and motivate professionals working in key sectors of the economy.
Rahmon also instructed the government to create 1.4 million new jobs over the next five years. He noted that Tajikistan has strong human capital, with the workforce growing by about 2 per cent annually. In 2025 alone, around 200,000 new jobs were created across the country.
