Humo Bank in Tajikistan has warned some non-resident customers, including Russian citizens, that services for cards opened remotely may be restricted unless they complete in-person biometric identification.
Customers affected by the measure have been asked to visit one of the bank’s branches in Tajikistan and complete the identification procedure by September 30. Cards of customers who fail to complete the procedure could be blocked from October 1, according to open.kg.
One customer said that the bank cited protection against fraudulent transactions as the reason for the additional identification requirement.
The bank’s support service reportedly said it had decided to restrict services for certain categories of non-resident individuals whose cards were opened online. Customers were also advised to withdraw their funds before October 1.
The customer said she had opened an account remotely in April 2025 and was currently trying to transfer around €300, but the money had neither reached the other account nor been returned. She said other customers had reportedly encountered similar problems.
Humo Bank said that after traveling to Tajikistan and completing in-person identification, customers may be issued a new card for the duration of their legal stay in the country, for a maximum period of one year.
