Tajikistan received 925,700 foreign visitors in the first six months of 2025, marking a 31.3 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.
Out of these visitors, 762,300 arrived as tourists, The Caspian Post reports per Tajik media.
The largest numbers came from neighboring Uzbekistan, followed by Russia and Kyrgyzstan. Notably, tourist arrivals from Kyrgyzstan surged dramatically, with 48,275 visitors recorded during this period-an increase of more than 2200 per cent compared to 2,096 visitors in the previous year.
Deputy Chairman of the Tajik Tourism Committee Rustam Kholmatiyon emphasized the growing importance of tourism to the national economy, noting that the sector contributed 3.5 per cent to Tajikistan’s GDP in 2024. The country continues attracting travelers from over 186 nations annually.
The average tourist spends about $300 during their visit. Based on 1.4 million tourists in 2024, this translates to approximately 4 billion somoni ($424.089 million) in tourism revenue. These estimates are derived from surveys conducted by the Research Institute of the International University of Tourism and Entrepreneurship at airports, border points, and through travel agencies.
Tajikistan has also signed 30 international agreements to bolster cooperation in tourism. Partners include countries and organizations such as the UAE, Sri Lanka, Jordan, Uzbekistan, Switzerland, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iran, Pakistan, Belarus, Qatar, Kuwait, Italy, China, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), and Diplomatic World journal.
