Tajikistan to Launch First Hydropower-Powered AI Data Center in Central Asia

Tajikistan is taking a major leap in sustainable technology with its first fully hydropower-powered AI data center in the Darvoz district of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).

The project, a joint venture between local AI firm darya.ai and India’s Yotta Data Services, was signed during the International Conference on AI in Dushanbe, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Entirely powered by renewable energy, the facility will serve enterprises, government bodies, research institutions, and startups, offering high-performance NVIDIA GPU infrastructure while supporting Tajikistan’s goal of generating up to 5 per cent of GDP from AI by 2040.

The Darvoz center marks the first phase of a broader initiative to position Tajikistan as a regional hub for AI and sustainable tech, combining clean energy with cutting-edge computing to create new opportunities for engineers, researchers, and data specialists.
