Young Tajik Chess Stars Dominate Regional Tournament in Kyrgyzstan

Young chess talents from Tajikistan delivered outstanding performances at the Central Asian Youth Chess Championship held in Cholpon-Ata, Issyk-Kul region of Kyrgyzstan.

Jaloliddin Ilkhomi clinched the gold medal in the Under-18 category, while Murodali Saifiev earned bronze in the Under-8 division, showcasing skill and confidence throughout the competition, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.

The tournament attracted over 500 participants aged 8 to 18 from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It is among the largest youth chess events in the region, aiming to crown the strongest emerging players in Central Asia.

Tajikistan was represented by a delegation of 17 athletes - 10 boys and 7 girls - led by Saidakhror Kurbonov, with team coach Daler Nazarov guiding the players.

Ilkhomi’s gold medal victory in the Under-18 category reflected his thorough preparation and strategic expertise, while Saifiyev’s bronze in the Under-8 group demonstrated his ability to compete successfully against formidable opponents.

Ilhom Yunusov, Vice President of the Tajik Chess Federation, stressed the vital role international competitions play in developing young talent, offering valuable experience and helping players gain recognition on the regional stage.

The Federation congratulated the medalists and coaches on their impressive achievements and extended thanks to all those supporting the growth of chess in Tajikistan.
