Three financial institutions from Tajikistan have been removed from the European Union’s sanctions list following a policy revision and strengthened cooperation with European partners.
The decision was taken by the European Commission on April 23, 2026, as part of the EU’s 20th sanctions package, The Caspian Post reports via the National Bank of Tajikistan.
The banks removed from the list include Spitamen Bank, Dushanbe City Bank, and Commercial Bank of Tajikistan. These institutions had previously been included in the EU’s 19th sanctions package.
The move followed expanded engagement between Tajik regulatory bodies and the European Commission, as well as ongoing reforms in compliance systems and anti-money laundering standards within the country’s banking sector.
The National Bank of Tajikistan stated that the decision is expected to improve investor confidence, support financial sector growth, and expand access to banking services.
