Turkmenistan Aims to Expand Cooperation with UN in Sustainable Urban Development

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Myahri Byashimova held talks with the UN-Habitat delegation led by Katya Schaefer, during which they discussed prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of sustainable development of human settlements, according to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

At the meeting, special attention was paid to the implementation of the 11th UN Sustainable Development Goal, aimed at ensuring openness, safety and environmental sustainability of cities, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.

The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of national programs that are consistent with the country’s international obligations within the framework of the global Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030.

Following the talks, the parties expressed their readiness to further strengthen the partnership and fill it with new content. The UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is a key partner of Turkmenistan in matters of sustainable urban development.
