Turkmenistan and Japan Discuss Strengthening Cooperation

Turkmen-Japanese political consultations took place in Tokyo on January 27, according to the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The Turkmen side was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and the Japanese side was headed by Special Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for Central Asian and Caucasus Affairs Ishikawa Masaki, The Caspian Post reports citing Akipress.

During the meeting, it was noted that the relations between Turkmenistan and Japan are developing dynamically across the whole range of bilateral agenda.

The participants of the meeting considered the issues of holding the first summit of the countries-participants of the dialogue "Central Asia + Japan".

Discussing opportunities for cooperation and topical aspects of international politics, the sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding constructive partnership, including within the framework of international organizations, in particular the UN.

Touching upon the topic of bilateral cooperation in the trade-economic sphere, the sides discussed current projects and issues related to their implementation. The positive experience of cooperation in the oil-gas and petrochemical industries, in the electric power industry, transport was noted.

The sides also discussed issues related to Turkmenistan's participation in the World Expo 2025 to be held in Osaka and holding of the National Day of Turkmenistan on April 14, 2025.

The sides said that the humanitarian sphere is an integral component of the Turkmen-Japanese partnership. It was noted that effective cooperation between the two countries has been established in education, science, cultural exchange, Japanese language teaching. Opportunities for developing cooperation in the field of digital systems and information technology were also emphasized.

A meeting was held between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and State Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan Hisayuki Fujii on the same day.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the state and prospects of the Turkmen-Japanese interaction in political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian areas. They reaffirmed their readiness to further strengthen partnership on the whole range of issues.

The importance of visits at the highest and high levels in promoting interstate relations was emphasized.

During the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Japan, the Turkmen delegation met with Member of the Board of Directors, Executive Vice President of Itochu Corporation, President of Machinery and Equipment, Chairman of the Japanese-Turkmen Committee for Economic Cooperation Hiroyuki Tsubai.

The sides discussed the implementation of the agreements reached at the meeting of the Turkmen-Japanese and Japan-Turkmen Economic Cooperation Committees held on December 16-17, 2024.
