Turkmenistan is seeking to strengthen its partnership with Japan through innovative environmental initiatives, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said during a meeting with Japanese business leaders in Tokyo.
The president outlined four priority projects in waste management and the circular economy, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
The Turkmen leader invited Japanese companies to consider their implementation:
Modern Waste Processing Plant - A facility for sorting, recycling, and reusing household and construction waste to significantly reduce landfill volumes.
Advanced Wastewater Treatment - Upgrading treatment systems to allow recycled water reuse in industry and municipal services.
Plastic Recycling Mini-Plants - Reducing environmental plastic pollution by processing PET bottles and returning polyethylene into the circular economy.
E-Waste Recycling Facility - Minimizing hazardous and hard-to-decompose waste containing metal, plastic, and electronics through a dedicated processing plant.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan’s interest in advanced Japanese technologies in water conservation, wastewater treatment, waste management, green energy, and hydrogen technologies.
“During our April meeting, we discussed the transition to a circular economy. Today, Turkmenistan is paying special attention to this area,” he said, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts to modernize industrial infrastructure, expand waste recycling, and promote rational resource use.
The president also noted the successful history of cooperation with Japanese companies like Mitsubishi, Toyota, Mitsui, and Sumitomo, underpinned by mutual trust, respect, and strong bilateral relations.
Concluding the meeting, Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to developing and expanding long-term partnerships with Japan, offering continued support for Japanese business presence in the country.
