Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power is set to invest $260 million in Uzbekistan to develop a major complex for the management of hazardous industrial waste.

The project’s implementation was discussed by Aziz Abdukhakimov, chairman of Uzbekistan’s National Committee for Ecology, and Mohammad Abunayyan, chairman of ACWA Power, The Caspian Post reports via UzDaily.

The planned facility is expected to strengthen Uzbekistan’s capacity to safely manage hazardous industrial waste while supporting the country’s environmental infrastructure.

The two sides also discussed accelerating the implementation of the project and expanding cooperation in environmental protection.

Another key area of potential cooperation is the creation of a national monitoring and early warning system for sand and dust storms in Uzbekistan.

The initiative could involve developing joint forecasting models and establishing data-sharing mechanisms between specialized institutions in the two countries.

The proposed system would help improve monitoring and forecasting of hazardous weather events, while strengthening environmental cooperation between Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia.
