Egypt Turns Spotlight on Uzbekistan in Expanding Tourism Ties

Uzbekistan is being actively promoted in Egypt’s tourism market as officials move to strengthen travel ties and unlock new opportunities between Central Asia and North Africa.

In Cairo, talks were held on expanding tourism cooperation between Uzbekistan and Egypt, with a key focus on launching charter flights between the two countries, The Caspian Post reports via Podrobno.uz.

Direct air connections between Tashkent and Cairo are expected to reduce ticket prices and make travel more accessible for tourists.

The meeting took place at the Uzbek embassy with participation from representatives of the Egyptian tourism sector, including the founder of Egypt Holiday travel company. Industry figures noted rising interest among Egyptian travelers in new destinations, with Uzbekistan emerging as a top candidate due to its rich historical heritage, Islamic cultural legacy, and strong civilizational ties.

However, high airfare remains a major barrier. Flights from Egypt to Uzbekistan currently cost between $600 and $1,200, making the route less competitive compared to destinations in Southeast Asia and Europe. To address this, both sides are discussing the introduction of charter flights between Tashkent and Cairo to significantly reduce travel costs.

Alongside government efforts, Egyptian tourism operators have already begun promoting Uzbekistan more actively, including collaboration with popular bloggers and media influencers. A familiarization trip is planned for June, when a group of influencers will visit Uzbekistan to explore its tourism potential and help develop new travel packages.

In addition, a major presentation of Uzbekistan’s tourism and investment opportunities is scheduled for May 10 at the Uzbek embassy in Cairo. The event is expected to serve as a platform for new agreements and stronger cooperation in the tourism sector between the two countries.
