Tashkent Police Catch Gang Stealing $50K Safe Disguised as Courier

Law enforcement in Tashkent has apprehended a group involved in a high-profile robbery of a safe containing $50,000.

The Tashkent City Internal Affairs Main Bureau announced that the crime occurred at an office in the Yunusobod district, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

Following a complaint, the bureau’s Criminal Investigation Department launched an operation to identify the suspects. This led to the arrest of three individuals: the alleged mastermind Bobur, born in 1988; an accomplice Sherzod, born in 2000; and a company employee, Abdurahmon, who worked as a driver for the targeted LLC.

Investigators found that Abdurahmon provided crucial inside information and logistical support for the heist. He supplied Sherzod with a scooter, a specialized delivery thermal bag, and a helmet to pose as a courier. This disguise allowed Sherzod to access the office at night, enter the basement, and steal the safe.

During questioning, the driver admitted his role, stating that he handed over the office keys and indicated the exact location of the safe, which he received back three days later. He expressed remorse and pleaded for a second chance, citing the shame brought upon his family. Both the organizer and the individual who executed the theft publicly apologized to the President and the people of Uzbekistan, seeking forgiveness.

The Yunusobod District Internal Affairs Department has opened a criminal case under Article 169 (Theft) of the Criminal Code, under which the suspects could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
