Uzbek Diplomats Help Samarkand’s Woman Escape Abuse in Saudi Arabia

Uzbek diplomats have successfully assisted in the safe return of a Samarkand native who had been living in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, and subjected to inhumane treatment by her foreign husband.

Collaborating closely with the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and relevant authorities, Uzbek officials successfully secured all the required exit documentation. Under Saudi law, foreign nationals require an exit visa, and women need official permission from their husbands, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

Following the suffered woman’s appeal, her husband was arrested and placed in temporary detention, and ordered to provide the required exit permission while refraining from harming or obstructing her.

The woman safely returned to Uzbekistan via the Dammam-Sharjah-Tashkent route and expressed heartfelt gratitude to Uzbek diplomats and national authorities for their support and life-saving intervention.

The case underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to its citizens abroad through the “Return to Homeland” initiative, offering Uzbeks in difficult situations overseas the chance to return home and start anew.
