President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has signed a decree granting pardons to 615 individuals who have shown genuine repentance and a commitment to reform.
The move marks the 33rd anniversary of the adoption of Uzbekistan’s Constitution, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
Under the decree:
220 individuals were fully released from their sentences
123 received early conditional release
97 had sentences replaced with more lenient ones
175 saw their prison terms reduced
The pardons include 9 foreign nationals, 29 women, 23 men over 60, 264 under 30, and two minors. Nine individuals previously involved with banned organizations were also included.
Authorities have been tasked with helping the pardoned individuals reintegrate into society, including support for family reunification, employment, and adopting healthy lifestyles.
