Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to boost railway cooperation to accelerate grain and food shipments, marking a major step toward strengthening regional trade logistics.
At a meeting held at the Saryagash junction, top transport and agriculture officials from both countries approved measures to expand cargo flows. The sides agreed to increase the daily exchange to 35 train pairs, with Uzbekistan set to receive at least 10 grain trains and 5 food cargo trains every day, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
To keep shipments moving smoothly, both countries will ensure round-the-clock operations, including weekends and holidays, and coordinate wagon rotation based on the capacity of grain recipients in Uzbekistan. This is expected to help stabilize supply chains and guarantee timely delivery of Kazakh grain to Uzbekistan and neighboring markets.
Freight turnover between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan continues rising: in the first 11 months of 2025, cargo volumes totaled 28.5 million tons, up 16 per cent year-on-year. Grain transportation alone increased by 32 per cent, reaching 5.6 million tons.
