Kazakhstan has stepped up its fight against organized crime, disrupting the activities of members of 24 criminal groups since the beginning of 2026.

More than 169 people have been detained on suspicion of serious offenses, including extortion, kidnapping, illegal possession of firearms and other crimes. The detainees reportedly include leaders of criminal groups, according to the Kazakh National Security Committee.

Police officers have also identified sources of illegal income linked to criminal schemes operating in border areas, as well as in the industrial and environmental sectors.
