Uzbekistan Appoints First Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Marking New Diplomatic Milestone

Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Sri Lanka (residing in Islamabad) Alisher Tukhtaev has presented his credentials to Rohana Ambagolla, Head of the State Protocol Department at Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry marking the historic appointment of the country’s first ambassador to Sri Lanka and ushering in a new chapter in bilateral relations.

Sri Lanka expressed readiness to deepen cooperation, appreciating President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s initiatives to strengthen ties with Global South countries, promote food security, and enhance regional connectivity, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

Both sides discussed expanding practical cooperation in trade, logistics, education, and tourism.

The officials agreed to work on increasing bilateral trade to $50 million shortly, focusing on joint transport and logistics solutions, as well as the use of digital platforms to support export-import operations.
