Yesterday, the Vatican hosted a solemn inauguration ceremony for Pope Leo XIV, attended by high-ranking officials from 156 countries, along with delegations from royal families and various religious denominations.
Uzbekistan was represented at the ceremony by Nuriddin Ismoilov, Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. He conveyed warm congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and expressed hope for strengthened interfaith dialogue and cooperation, The Caspian Post reports citing Uzbek media.
In response, Pope Leo XIV expressed his gratitude for the support and emphasized the importance of constructive engagement with Uzbekistan, highlighting the value of intercultural and interfaith harmony.
According to organizers, approximately 250,000 people gathered for the ceremony in St. Peter’s Square and surrounding areas.
