Uzbekistan is preparing to welcome the world’s leading space figures - and that list may include Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos.
The country plans to send official invitations to both entrepreneurs for the 2028 International Astronautical Congress, set to take place in Samarkand, The Caspian Post reports via
The announcement was made by Mukhiddin Ibragimov, deputy director of Uzbekcosmos Space Research and Technology Agency under the Ministry of Digital Technologies.
A Global Space Gathering in Samarkand
Ibragimov said that invitations will be extended to all leading representatives of the global space industry. He noted that officials from the International Astronautical Federation even joked that hosting the congress in Samarkand could be a reason for Musk himself to attend.
“We will send invitations to everyone, including Mr. Musk and Mr. Bezos,” Ibragimov stated.
The decision to hold the prestigious event in Samarkand was made in October 2025 during the congress in Sydney. Uzbekistan’s selection reflects the country’s rapid progress and strengthening position within the international space community.
10,000+ Participants Expected
The 2028 congress is expected to gather more than 10,000 participants from around the world. Preparations will continue over the next two years in close coordination with international partners.
Officials also pointed out that the Sydney congress generated approximately $27 million for Australia’s economy. Uzbekistan hopes to achieve a similar boost through tourism growth, service-sector expansion, and major international exhibitions.
