Uzbekistan and Japan are taking their education partnership to a new level with plans to establish a new Uzbek-Japanese University in Tashkent.

The two countries have signed an agreement to launch the institution, which will operate under the academic supervision of the University of Tsukuba, The Caspian Post reports via UzA.

The university will offer classes in English and follow the Japanese education model, giving students access to an internationally oriented learning environment.

The university will initially focus on master’s degree programs in artificial intelligence, digital transformation and business administration.

The academic offering is expected to grow over time, with plans to introduce bachelor’s and doctoral programs in the future.

Students will also have the opportunity to take part in short-term internships in Japan, providing practical experience and exposure to the Japanese academic and business environment.

A preparatory office for the Uzbek-Japanese University is scheduled to open in Tashkent in September.

The first cohort of master’s students is expected to begin studies during the 2028-2029 academic year.
