Uzbekistan Plans to Limit Car Imports by Individuals

Uzbekistan plans to reduce the volume of passenger cars imported under private individuals’ names, according to new government initiatives.

Customs authorities will simplify oversight of non-tariff restrictions and streamline import procedures for legal entities, allowing companies to bring in vehicles under easier conditions, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

As it was earlier reported, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev issued a decree on December 10 promoting cashless payments and combating the shadow economy.

Uzbekistan now plans to reduce the volume of passenger cars imported under the names of private individuals. To achieve this, non-tariff restrictions on car imports for legal entities will be eased, allowing companies to import vehicles under simplified conditions.

By March 1, 2026, the Uzbek Agency for Technical Regulation (Uzstandart), the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade (MIIT), and the Customs Committee will prepare a draft Cabinet of Ministers resolution.

Under the draft, customs posts will simplify procedures related to non-tariff controls and import clearance.

By next spring, Uzstandart, MIIT, the Customs Committee, the Committee for Veterinary and Livestock Development, the National Committee for Ecology and Climate Change, the Committee for Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health, and the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection will jointly prepare a regulatory document.

In addition, customs authorities and the UZIMEI Center will exchange information on registered IMEI codes of mobile devices by category. MIIT, the Ministry of Digital Technologies, and the Customs Committee will prepare a Cabinet resolution by February 1, 2026.
