The Mamadalı Topvoldiev Mahalla (District) in Uzbekistan’s Fergana Region has been officially granted the status of a “Tourist Mahalla” during a festive ceremony aimed at promoting local tourism and cultural heritage.
The designation was awarded by the Tourism Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan as part of an ongoing initiative to strengthen tourism infrastructure and stimulate domestic travel, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The event brought together officials from the Tourism Committee, the leadership of the national Hunarmand Association of Folk Artists, Craftsmen and Artists of the Republic of Uzbekistan, representatives from regional and district administrations, as well as members of the public and local media. The ceremony’s guest of honor was Saad Al-Qaddumi, President of the World Crafts Council.
In their remarks, speakers highlighted the government’s increasing efforts to develop tourism across the country and the strategic role of tourist mahallas in enhancing the cultural and investment appeal of local communities. The initiative was praised for contributing to the preservation of traditional heritage, while also fostering self-employment and grassroots economic growth.
Guests were invited to explore the “Travel Uzbekistan!” Domestic Tourism Fair, along with a vibrant exhibition of locally crafted goods. Attendees responded positively to the authentic representation of national customs, everyday life, and cultural values showcased in the newly designated Tourist Mahalla.
