Tashkent has been recognized as one of the world’s most rapidly transforming cities in a new study by global consulting firm Boston Consulting Group (BCG), highlighting the Uzbek capital’s growing influence as a regional economic and urban development hub.
Tashkent ranked among the top cities globally for its “speed of change”, outperforming numerous major metropolitan areas around the world, The Caspian Post reports via Kun.uz.
The assessment measured cities based on economic opportunities, quality of life, social capital, engagement with public institutions, and their ability to adapt to change.
In the “speed of change” category, Tashkent ranked just behind China’s Shenzhen and Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh, underscoring the international recognition of the city’s ambitious modernization efforts and reforms.
BCG analysts attributed Tashkent’s strong performance to rising economic activity, expanding opportunities for residents and businesses, and the rapid digitalization of public services. Improvements in communication and interaction between citizens and government institutions were also cited as key factors.
Over the past several years, Tashkent has undergone significant transformation through large-scale infrastructure upgrades, the development of new residential districts and public spaces, the introduction of digital government services, and initiatives aimed at improving the investment climate.
