Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan Partnership Advances with Key Interparliamentary Roadmap Agreement

Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have taken a significant step forward in strengthening their bilateral relations by agreeing on a comprehensive roadmap to enhance interparliamentary cooperation.

This strategic framework aims to deepen legislative collaboration, foster mutual understanding, and support the continued development of their longstanding partnership, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.

The Interparliamentary Group of Uzbekistan’s Parliament for Cooperation with Turkmenistan’s Parliament, chaired by Anvar Tuychiyev, Head of the Senate Committee on Agrarian, Water Management, and Environmental Issues, has convened an online meeting emphasizing the deep-rooted friendship.

The meeting highlighted the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, underscored by centuries of good-neighborly relations and strong trade, economic, and humanitarian ties.

These relations are grounded in mutual respect and trust, reflected in aligned stances on key regional and international matters.

Participants emphasized the critical role of the political will of Presidents Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Serdar Berdimuhamedov in advancing bilateral dialogue. The recent summit in Samarkand, where the two leaders met during the Central Asia-European Union Summit, was recognized as a milestone in strengthening ties.

The discussion also focused on enhancing parliamentary diplomacy as a vital mechanism for fostering mutual understanding and collaboration. Delegates explored ways to deepen interparliamentary dialogue, establish sustainable legislative contacts, and increase the effectiveness of parliamentary friendship groups.

Special attention was given to joint parliamentary oversight of implementing agreements reached at the highest political level.

The session concluded with an agreement to develop a detailed “roadmap” of forthcoming bilateral activities and to identify new avenues for interparliamentary cooperation.
