Czech Škoda Group will supply electric trains to Uzbekistan as part of a new cooperation agreement aimed at modernizing the country’s railway sector.
The deal was signed during high-level talks in Tashkent between Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, alongside a joint declaration expanding bilateral cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.
The agreement on electric train deliveries was signed on the Czech side by Škoda Group CEO Petr Novotny and representatives of Uzbekistan Railways.
The project is designed not only to supply modern rolling stock but also to support local assembly and gradual production localization in Uzbekistan.
According to earlier statements by Czech Ambassador to Uzbekistan Lubomir Frébort, the initiative includes long-term development plans in the rail sector, focusing on technology transfer and industrial cooperation.
As part of the project, a Škoda Academy is also expected to be established at the Tashkent State Transport University to train local specialists in railway engineering and operations.
