Armenia, EU Agree on Closer Coordination to Enforce Sanctions Against Russia

The EU and Armenia have agreed to intensify joint efforts to monitor and enforce sanctions against Russia amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

This commitment was formalized in a joint statement following high-level talks in Brussels among European Council President António Costa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, The Caspian Post reports, citing local media.

The sides emphasized enhanced coordination as part of a broader strategy to deepen EU-Armenia relations. Progress was also reported in visa liberalization negotiations, and EU officials expressed support for Armenia’s recently adopted “Law on Launching the Process of European Integration.”

The EU reiterated its commitment to Armenia’s development through significant financial and technical assistance. Under the Global Gateway initiative, EU investments in Armenia are projected to reach 2.5 billion euros, bolstered by a 270 million euro Resilience and Growth Plan introduced in April 2024, which increases EU funding by 50 per cent.

Discussions further highlighted EU backing for the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and efforts to normalize Armenia-Türkiye relations. Leaders underscored the importance of integrating Armenia into regional and EU-supported economic programs, notably within the EU Black Sea Strategy framework.
