Armenia's capital Yerevan may not have enough time to fully prepare for the upcoming COP17 biodiversity conference, with delays in planned work raising concerns over the city’s readiness to host the major international event.

The issue was highlighted by Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan, according to Armenia Today.

During a working meeting, Aneta Babayan, director of the municipal organization responsible for implementing investment programs related to Yerevan’s development, said the winner of a relevant tender had not yet been selected.

She nevertheless assured officials that “certain solutions” would be found.

Avinyan criticized the approach, warning that rushed decisions could be worse than having no work carried out at all.

The 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) is scheduled to take place in Yerevan from October 19 to 30, 2026.
