Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan could visit Moscow in the near future, although a specific date has not yet been set, the Kremlin said.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Pashinyan’s visit is expected to take place later this year.

“It will be in the very near future. There are no exact dates yet,” Peskov said.

The planned visit comes after a recent meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pashinyan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek.

During their talks, the two sides discussed bilateral relations and issues surrounding Armenia’s future participation in regional economic structures.

According to reports, Putin and Pashinyan also discussed the possibility of holding a referendum in Armenia to address the country’s position on membership in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and potential accession to the European Union.

Following the meeting, Putin said he had invited Pashinyan to Moscow to discuss specific areas of cooperation between Russia and Armenia.
