Armenia and Germany are taking their bilateral relations to a new level, with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announcing the advancement to a strategic partnership during a joint press conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
Pashinyan called the visit "historic," highlighting the signing of the Declaration on the Strategic Agenda of Bilateral Partnership as a key milestone, The Caspian Post reports, citing Armenian media.
He emphasized that the strengthened ties between the two countries are grounded in mutual respect, trust, and shared values, including human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.
Pashinyan noted that he and Chancellor Merz expressed satisfaction with the steady development and deepening of cooperation between Armenia and Germany in recent years, across all areas of mutual interest, including trade and economy, education, science, culture, and environmental protection.
“We discussed joint steps to expand trade and economic relations. Germany is one of Armenia’s main trading partners and the leading partner in the European Union. We are keen to further develop mutually beneficial economic cooperation,” Pashinyan added.
