Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan will visit Egypt from November 1 to 3 to attend the opening ceremony of the Grand Egyptian Museum, at the invitation of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
A number of meetings with international partners will also take place during the visit, according to the Armenian President’s office, The Caspian Post reports citing Armenian media.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), described as the world's largest archaeological museum, includes some 100,000 artefacts covering seven millennia of the country's history from pre-dynastic times to the Greek and Roman eras.
The Grand Egyptian Museum, located a mile away from the pyramids of Giza, covers an area of 470,000 sq meters. The complex was announced in 1992 but it was not until 2005 that construction began. Some areas of the museum opened in a soft launch in 2024, until its official opening on November 1, 2025. The artefacts include an 83-ton, 3,200-year-old colossus of Ramesses II and a 4,500-year-old boat belonging to Khufu, the pharaoh credited with building the pyramids, according to The Guardian.
